Foundation Brush 101

Real Techniques Buffing Brush, Stippling Brush and Foundation Brush
I thought I'd write just a quick post about the different looks you can achieve with different foundation brushes.  Real Techniques makes by far my favorite brush sets, and they come at a pretty reasonable price at Ulta.  The brushes are all synthetic so they don't have to be used for the area that they are designated.  The handles are also extremely light allowing for easy use.  Overall, it's a great line.  Here is a description of how to use different foundation brushes:

Buffing Brush : These types of brushes are great for all different kinds of foundations.  They really "buff" the product into your skin, giving a great airbrushed finish.  Since the buffing brush does push the product into your skin, it can give a lighter coverage, but it is also very buildable so you can create any look you like.  I also like this brush for powder foundations as it is really soft and blends out the powder quite flawlessly.

Stippling Brush : This brush is great if you only want a light coverage.  The duo-fiber hairs allow for an air brushed finish since the lighter tips blend the foundation over your skin and then the darker hairs really buff it in.  It's also great for any kind of cream product, such as cream blushes as well as highlighters.

Flat Foundation Brush : Since this brush doesn't actually blend the foundation into your skin, it leaves a very full coverage look.  As you put the foundation on in a painting motion you could start to notice streaks or the foundation moving around your face.  At this point it's important to pat the foundation in with the brush so that it sets and dries in place.

Those are my suggestions for different foundation brushes.  Hope it helps!
