Gel eyeliner is by far my go-to form of eyeliner, for a number of reasons. It goes on smoothly and also lasts all day without moving, which is something that I have not found true for "waterproof" liquid liners. It's also very versatile since you can smudge it out immediately after applying to give a more smokey look.
Maybelline's Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner (quite the name), is comparable to Bobbi Brown's Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner, and it only costs a small fraction of the price. The packaging is pretty similar to that of Bobbi Brown, and most other gel liners out there, in that it comes in a small pot that you dip your brush into. I have the gel liner in the colors blackest black and egg plant (which really makes your eye color pop), however it also comes in charcoal and brown.

The great thing about this eyeliner is that it has amazing color pay off. You only need to use the smallest amount as the product is extremely opaque. It really does glide on your lid with ease, and like the name says, can create lasting drama as it definitely does last all day without smudging. Although the color pay off is quite strong and bold, a natural look can still be created by tracing your upper lid with a very thin line. This way, your lash line looks slightly fuller but it still looks completely natural.
These eyeliners do come with a small brush, however I've found that he bristles aren't quite thick enough and the short handle makes it quite difficult to control, therefore it takes quite a while to apply the liner. I prefer using a small liner brush, like the one pictured above from Ulta. Others prefer using angled liner brushes. Whatever you use, it is sure to go on smooth.
Alright, you convinced me. Going to buy liquid liner! Love the eggplant color, but how dark/purple is it?
ReplyDeleteOh hey! The purple isn't as opaque as the black, but if you layer it you can get quite a deep color.
