Be warned: this post could get quite long.
I am by no means an expert in hair care, but I thought that I would share my current daily routine as a means of reviewing a few excellent products. My hair became quite damaged in my late teens, as I usually lacked discipline when it came to heat protectant...but recently my hair has forgiven me and appears much softer and healthier. I strive to add as much moisture into my ends, as I've recently ombred my hair which is a quite a damaging process. As we all know, shampooing everyday dries your hair out even more as it strips out all the natural oils that your hair needs to remain soft and silky, so I wash my hair every other day (sometimes I can manage to go a third day, but that's only if I'm lucky.) On the days I don't wash my hair I through in some dry shampoo which not only gets rid of the oil at my roots but also adds tons of great volume. Anyway, let's just get to the good stuff.
Wash: Tresemmé Platinum Strength and Aveda Color Conserve
Because I have ombréd hair, I chose to get a shampoo and conditioner that would help conserve the color, especially since it was summer and the sun can easily strip hair of color. I picked up the shampoo and conditioner from my salon but because it's quite expensive and I wanted to make it last, I alternate washing my hair with these products and a regular drug store shampoo. To be honest, the Aveda shampoo and conditioner hasn't benefited my hair at all. I still feel like the blonde in my hair has faded into a more orange tone and my hair was never left feeling soft after I washed it. I've already used up the conditioner so now I'm just trying to finish up the shampoo. As I mentioned, I alternate the Aveda products with a drug store shampoo whenever I wash my hair. Tresemmé's line of shampoos and conditioners are all amazing. I've tried a few different kinds but right now I'm hooked on their Platinum Strength line. It claims to repair up to two years of damage in just five uses. I'm not sure how damaged my hair was two years ago, but I can assure you that this line has not only left my hair feeling softer but my hair doesn't seem to damage as easily. You only need to use a small amount of shampoo for it to lather up into a rich foam which is great, so these bottles will last a very long time.
Hair Mask: L'Oréal New Total 5 Damage Erasing Balm
I am an avid, avid fan of the Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque. I have gone through so many tubs and have absolutely no complaints. However, I was at Ulta a few weeks ago and was in need of a new hair mask. I'm not sure why but I had the urge to try something new. I came across the L'Oréal Total 5 Damage Erasing Balm, which I think I first heard of from Essie Button but I'm not 100% sure. Either way, I decided to try it out as it is extremely affordable and not even a quarter of the price of the Macademia Mask! Let's just say, I may have a new favorite hair mask. It works just as well as the Macademia mask and has an equally pleasant scent. It has a slightly thicker consistency, kind of like slightly melted butter, but I find that it's actually easier to rub through your hair evenly. Twice a week I'll take a dollop of the product after I've washed my hair, and rub it through, focusing on the ends. I think clip it up in a bun and go along with my day for about 20 min (even though it says 3-5 min...I get distracted.) After rinsing the mask out, my hair immediately feels ten times softer and looks so healthy. If you're looking for a new, affordable mask, definitely give this one a go!
Condition: It's a 10 Miracle Leave In Product
After towel drying my hair I spray plenty of this product on to my hair, again focusing on the end. All of the It's a 10 products claim to do 10 beneficial things for your hair which helps limit the number of products you use. I've already gone through a couple of bottles of this, as it has really helped condition my hair. Apparently, it succeeds in doing all sorts of things, from acting as a heat protectant to protecting hair color, to preventing split ends, to detangling and so much more! It's great. I would recommend getting the larger size (this one is only 4 fl oz.) as it doesn't last a particularly long time and the larger bottle is a better value. Since this leave-in conditioner detangles, I spray it on before brushing my hair at all. After that I use my beloved tangle teaser. Hair is in its most vulnerable state when it's wet so this brush is excellent since it's made for brushing out wet hair and preventing breakage. I won't see that it doesn't pull out ANY hair, but I will say that it barely pulls out any. Since I wash my hair at night, I let it air dry at this point and leave it to be styled in the morning!
Style: Organix Nourishing Cocount Oil, Tresemmé Heat Tamper Leave in Spray, Batiste Dry Shampoo
Whether I'm styling my hair or deciding to sport the au naturale look, I always use the Organix coconut oil spray. It instantly adds shine and makes your hair feel silky smooth, plus it smells amazing. It just makes you hair look healthy whether it's freshly cleaned, or second day hair. Speaking of second day hair, my go-to dry shampoo has always been Batiste. I'm currently working through the Batiste intended for "dark and deep brown" hair, but I've used a few of the regular formula and have never had any problems. The spray blends really easily and does not leave any white residue. The spray really does soak up oils and adds tons of volume. I know some people use it even on freshly clean hair to add some volume. Lastly, if I do decide to put some effort into my hair and choose to style it, I always spray the ends with Tresemmé's Heat Protectant. It helps prevent damage and split ends unlike any other protectant I use, and it is extremely affordable. Bottom line: it works.
Ok, I think that's about all I can say about what I do with my hair. It's nothing too special but I'm pretty happy with all the products I'm using right now (besides that Aveda shampoo...) so hopefully this post helps you!
